ATTITUDE- Makes Worship

Something happened yesterday and it made me think. It made me think about what true worship really is. I have been working on a "Theology of Worship" for myself.

For the last few years I have thought of worship as more than a service. I have been thinking that worship is an attitude. Here is what I have been thinking about today. I post this not as a final statement of belief, but as a draft. I want your input. Your critical input. What do you really think about this? What is right? What is wrong? What needs to be changed? What needs to be added? Please give me your honest input. (A special note here: Lauren has already given a great deal of input that has made this what it is. Without her help it would not be here!)

Over the next few weeks I plan to break each of these down. I would like to develop each of these thoughts and back them up with scripture.

A- Authentic Worship has to be heartfelt and intentional, a single focus. You have to give all of yourself to God, nothing can be held back.
T- Trinity Worship must be focused on the Love of the Father, the righteousness of the Savior, and the power of the Holy Spirit. We must approach the throne of God with humility and respect.
T- Transformation Worship must leave you changed each and every time.
I- Interconnection Worship can be private, but the connection between others is vital.
T- Truth Worship is based on sound doctrine; songs, prayers and teaching must line up with the scriptures.
U- Uncommon Worship must be exceptional in that we expect the unexpected. We expect God to be there and big things to happen.
D- Demonstrative Worship transforms us and that change must be apparent to everyone around us.
E- Experiential Worship is more than going through the motions; it must be expressive and engage all parts of our intellect and emotion.

Worship seems to be on a lot of peoples hearts lately. I think our attitudes do have a lot to do with our freedom in worship. Good post!!

Just want you to know that I've had this up in a tab since you posted it. I've been mulling it over... and it's really SO good. I am praying we have more time to talk about it this weekend!

After I post this comment I'm going to put your post BACK up in a tab so I can continue to pray about it and take it in.

Greetings! Random stranger from the blogosphere here - :) I followed my way over here from "That Girl's" blog...

Your post caught my eye as we have, as a "worship team" been mulling over the idea of a worship theology together this summer...

the struggle I have come across both in those discussion & with this particular post - is our seemingly narrow definition of "worship" (I am assuming of course that you are making reference to "worship" as what we do on Sunday mornings as a body_....but, (and I think you'd agree) worship is so very very much more than that....in our modern day Christianity we've somehow managed to cram what we look at as worship in one-two hours on Sunday mornings....so perhaps it's more of a semantics thing...but "worship" is a lifestyle, a way of being, an attitude of the heart that I believe we carry with us on a daily, hour-by-hour, minute by minute basis....

"Therefore, I urge you, brothers, in view of God's mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God—this is your spiritual act of worship." Romans 12:1

Ultimately I see worship as an act of surrender, beit on a daily basis or on a Sunday morning - and I know for myself personally, I find it awfully hard to have that attitude of worship on a Sunday morning when I have failed to put myself aside during the week....

just my two cents...ultimately I believe tha heart of your post is a good one & I would hope that as our body comes together on a Sunday morning that our worship would indeed be life changing..heart altering & that our attitudes would reflect the very heart that Christ has for us & for one another....

good post. Thank you.
